How many reviews do I need before launching? Can I import fake reviews?

Review setup question — fake reviews question is also common and needs a direct answer

On real reviews: you need at least 10–20 reviews visible on your product page before running paid ads at any meaningful spend. Below 10 reviews, cold traffic will hesitate at the "is this real?" stage — trust signals directly reduce that friction.

  • Where to get initial reviews: Import reviews from AliExpress using Loox, Judge.me, or Ali Reviews apps. These are real reviews from real buyers of the same product — they're authentic, not fabricated. This is standard practice.
  • Fake reviews: Writing your own five-star reviews is a Shopify policy violation and a consumer protection issue. Importing AliExpress reviews = legitimate (real buyers, real product). Writing fake testimonials = not legitimate. The distinction matters legally and ethically.
  • Review quality matters: Import reviews that mention the specific problem your product solves, not generic "great product!" reviews. A review that says "I've had chronic knee pain for 3 years and this is the only thing that's helped" is worth 10 generic 5-star ratings for your conversion rate.
  • Star distribution: An all-5-star review section looks fake. A real mix (mostly 4–5 stars with a few 3-star reviews that are neutral) looks authentic. Import reviews that reflect genuine variation.
