What is Broad Targeting?

Meta Ads

Running Meta ads with no interest or demographic restrictions beyond age and geography. In 2026, broad targeting almost always outperforms interest targeting because Meta's algorithm is better at finding buyers than human-specified interests.

Why it matters: Interest targeting narrows the available audience pool, raises CPMs, and limits Meta's ability to optimize delivery. Broad targeting gives Meta the largest pool to find high-intent buyers in.

Adding interest stacks to broad campaigns "just to narrow it down a bit." Every restriction raises CPM and reduces the algorithm's search space. If broad isn't working, the problem is the creative — not that your targeting is too broad.
