I have ATCs but zero purchases. My product page looks fine. What's actually wrong?

Appears in nearly every testing discussion — extremely common

This is the ATC abandonment problem. When your ATC rate is good (above 5%) but your purchase rate is near zero, you have a checkout friction problem, not a traffic problem. Common causes:

  • Unexpected shipping cost at checkout: If your product page says "free shipping" but Shopify charges $5.99 at checkout, expect 40–60% cart abandonment from that discrepancy alone.
  • Payment options missing: A significant percentage of buyers expect PayPal. If you only have Shopify Payments (card), you're losing everyone who doesn't feel safe entering card details on an unfamiliar store.
  • Trust collapse at checkout: No trust badges. No SSL visible. Unfamiliar brand name on the checkout URL. Buyers who were interested on the product page get cold feet at payment.
  • Checkout page load time: On mobile 3G, a 4+ second checkout load drops conversions measurably. Compress everything. Run Google PageSpeed Insights on your checkout URL.

Go to Shopify Analytics → Sessions → Checkout Started → Completed. Find the exact drop-off point. If 80% are abandoning at the payment page, it's trust. If they're abandoning at the shipping estimate, it's pricing friction.
