My Instagram account got banned. How do I recover it and can I still run ads?

Account recovery question asked with high emotional intensity — many operators have faced this

An Instagram ban and a Meta ad account ban are separate issues — one doesn't automatically affect the other, but they can be connected depending on how the accounts are linked in your Business Manager.

  • IG account banned, ad account fine: Submit an appeal through Instagram's "Disagree with decision" option in the banned account settings. This process is slow (1–6 weeks). In the meantime, you can still run Meta ads — your ad placements can exclude Instagram or run through a backup IG account.
  • If the ban is related to ad content: The same violation that got your IG banned may flag your ad account. Audit your recent ads and posts for policy violations before running new creatives.
  • Setting up a backup account: Having a secondary IG profile connected to your Business Manager is standard practice for active operators. When your primary account is in review, the backup keeps ads running. Do not create a fake personal account — use a legitimate business page.
  • Prevention: Keep your personal Facebook profile in good standing. Avoid using your ad account for anything that violates Meta's advertising policies — the personal profile ban is what typically cascades into ad account restrictions.
